Hints and Tips for Submitting

You don’t need to be an experienced writer to get into print. Here are some guidelines for you to help make writing and submitting your first article easier.

Who can submit an article?

Anyone can submit articles for The Circuit Magazine but they need to be:

  • Topical to the security industry
  • Interesting
  • Written in English

If English is not your first language or you do not feel comfortable as a writer then please do not be put off as we can help out with editing and we do have a proofreading facility.

How long does an article need to be?

We can take articles of any size but as a guideline …

  • 750 words with 1 hi-resolution image equates, roughly, to a 2-page double spread.
  • articles in excess of 1500 words may have to be spread across 2 issues, though there are exceptions.

What do you mean by “high resolution images”?

Images should be clear, in focus, at least 300 pixels in width, and a minimum of 72 dpi.

You should also own the copyright to any images submitted to us.

Do you publish all submissions?

We do not promise to publish all articles submitted.

If we do accept an article for publication, we cannot specifiy which edition it will appear in. We always endeavor to get your article published as soon as possible, so long as it meets the requirements listed here.

What factors affect articles getting in?

Authenticity – All articles must be your own work and will be screened for plagirism. If we have any doubt that you are not the original author then we will not publish the piece.

Balance of the issue – Each issue is considered in great detail and the articles must balance out. We cannot have an issue full of unarmed combat articles, for example. If you submit an article for an issue that is already heavy in content with that same topic then it may have to slip to a future issue.

Deadline day – We have deadlines just like any other publisher so, the sooner you get yours in the sooner we can start planning that issue and the better chance it will have of making it into the final issue.

What do I get from submitting an article?

We do not pay people to write for us, however, you will receive full accreditation, in the form of an accompanying bio and in some cases company logo. If your article also gets published online we will include backlinks back to you/your company in the main body of the article. The Circuit magazine is seen as an authority in the security industry and is read globally which could provide you with a high level of exposure.

Many of our contributors like to place their published articles on their own websites and we are fully supportive of this, all we ask is that you give the magazine a mention on your site.

Mail all submissions and enquiries to: info@circuit-magazine.com

Tactical Firearms - Cross-Draw

Tactical Firearms – Cross-Draw

It is believed that this is the safest method of carry because when the handgun is drawn from the holster, it points in a straight line directly at the target. The cross-draw is where the gun is on the opposite side of the body to the dominant hand, so you have to reach across the body to draw the handgun.

Product Review – Ear Hero

Designed by an audiologist, earHero’s speakers are so tiny they will never block your ear canal giving you the ability to literally talk on a separate phone without removing the earHero tactical earpiece from either ear.

You can literally hear whisper level sounds from yards away, while identifying the sounds’ precise location. The earHero tactical headsets have wires so thin and clear, they are virtually undetectable, and the design is so comfortable, you’ll barely know the earpiece is there.

Introduction to Cybersecurity Part 4

Insecure Smart Houses

They are only of limited relevance today, but as the technologies involved become more widespread and implemented into every facet of life they will only become more prevalent. While it sounds like the stuff of science fiction, these threats exist now and are not going to go away.

For simplicity, we’ll say that a ‘smart’ device is anything which connects to the internet (or a network) and is not intended to be a computer interface. Intended is the key word there, as many of these devices are insecure for the simple reason that they are a computer. The problem is that it is now cheaper and easier to put a general purpose computer into a device and run some software to, for example, turn lights on and off than it is to design a single-purpose lightbulb which also connects to a network.
