Cash App Founder Bob Lee Fatally Stabbed in San Francisco

April 4

What happened: Tech executive Bob Lee, the founder of Cash App and former chief technology officer of Square, was tragically stabbed to death in San Francisco. The 43-year-old was attacked in the early hours of Tuesday morning on Main Street. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Lee succumbed to his life-threatening injuries. As of April 5th, no arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation. Lee was also the chief product officer of MobileCoin, a San Francisco-based cryptocurrency company, and held notable roles at Google and other companies in the tech industry.

Why it matters: The violent and unexpected death of Bob Lee is significant as it highlights the vulnerability of high-profile individuals in the tech community. This incident should serve as a reminder of the importance of personal security measures for prominent figures, as well as the need for ongoing efforts to reduce violence in urban environments.

Ways to See the Threat Before it Happens

Threat modelling is widely in use, whether knowingly or not, across every walk of life – and has been used since time immemorial to prioritise security defences. The only difference between the well-known risk assessments carried out by everyone and threat modelling in cyber security is the attempt to document and systemise it. I am hoping that this idea of formal threat modelling will be a useful tool for you to use in your future arsenal of available resources as a CP operator.

Keeping Your Edge: Building a Solid Foundation

Longevity, consistency and remaining relevant are some primary goals of all protectors. These factors are important when establishing a new contract and providing services for a new client. But what is equally important is the mindset that goes into those first days and weeks on the assignment. As such, I wanted to get the personal perspective of Vantrell Wilson, a close protection agent who I have trained with and worked alongside of for years now.

Leveraging Technology in Industry Hiring

Increased global connectedness through technology is fast becoming the norm these days. Video conferencing and “face to face” meetings are happening daily in real-time across the world. As an industry that prides itself on having the edge over our adversaries, we are falling below our own standards when it comes to utilizing the technological resources at our availability to their fullest potential.

Kevin Ghee interview by Jose Casillas

Foot Steps Episode 1 – Kevin Ghee

My transition was a tricky one. Coming from a field where we are trained to address crime once it happens, mentally it leaves you in response mode. EP is very proactive, as such, we must anticipate what could happen and work to mitigate that. Also, as an Law Enforcement Officer, you have control over almost every situation that you’re in. The law gives you that authority and that luxury. In Executive Protection, not so much. So there’s another shift in mindset that one must have. As an EP professional you don’t have the same authority that LEO’s have, so you can’t bark out commands, stop traffic, block public access, etc., as such, the transition was tricky. The best way I can describe it is, not difficult but also, not “easy,” so to speak.

Operating in Mexico – The Uncomfortable Truth

There are many misconceptions about close protection and private security operations in Mexico. As usual, most of the myths originate from Hollywood movies and fictional T.V. dramas. The realities of working as a bodyguard in Mexico are quite different, it’s definitely a lot more dangerous and a lot less glamorous than Hollywood would have you believe.
